Kristina Higginson, MS, CCC-SLP
Kristina is married to Mark Higginson. Both are speech-language pathologists and started Speech Solutions together. Kristina is the inspiration behind the creation of the clinic. She first became interested in speech-language pathology when she worked a summer job in the offices of Center for Neurosciences in Tucson, AZ.
Kristina completed her undergraduate degree in English editing at Brigham Young University, and went on to receive a Master’s degree in communication disorders from the University of Arizona.
She met her husband while she was in graduate school. After meeting Kristina, Mark suddenly decided to grow up and expedite his graduation so that they could finish school at the same time and seek employment. They married, moved from Tucson, and then worked together (Mark as a sign language interpreter, Kristina as a speech therapist) at the school district in Gallup, New Mexico.
Kristina has supported Mark through eight career and education-related moves, helping him through undergraduate and graduate school by bread-winning, tutoring him, and cheering him on every step of the way. She graciously gave the go-ahead when Mark begged to leave a clinical position as a speech therapist in order to open up their own clinic. She has always shown great faith in her husband.
She now provides speech therapy for their own children, in addition to homeschooling all four of them. She is actively involved in a homeschool co-op group, and instills in her children a love of education, kindness, and hard work.
If she could get any amount of time to herself, she would most like to spend it curled up reading a good book, or two, or three.
